International Initiatives
SBTi
In May 2022, GIS submitted a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) based on the 1.5°C warming scenario. GIS pledged to establish short- and mid-term carbon reduction targets and to achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2050.
In August 2023, GIS officially submitted its near-term reduction targets, which were approved by SBTi in March 2024.
GIS commits to using 2022 as the base year and aims to:
Achieve an absolute reduction of 42% in Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions by 2030.
Reach 100% renewable electricity usage by 2030.
TCFD
In August 2022, GIS officially became a supporter of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and implemented the TCFD framework that year by establishing a climate-related risk identification and disclosure process.
In July 2023, GIS published its first TCFD Report and was awarded the highest rating: Level-5: Excellence.
GIS will continue to align with TCFD’s four core elements—governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics & targets—to promote and disclose its climate-related management and actions.
TNFD
With raising concerns to the natural capital and biodiversity around the world, companies must consider their dependence and impact on the natural environment in terms of sustainable development. As a leading global technology solutions provider, GIS, for the first time in 2024, incorporated natural risks and opportunities into its corporate decision-making to enhance operational resilience and sustainable competitiveness.
Sustainability Ratings and Awards
CDP
Since 2022, GIS has participated in CDP evaluations, publicly disclosing information related to environmental and water resource management.
In 2023, GIS received a "B" (Management level) rating for its Climate Change questionnaire and an "A-" (Leadership level) in the Supply Chain module.
In 2024, both the Climate Change and Water Security questionnaires received upgraded "A-" (Leadership level) ratings, demonstrating GIS’s outstanding environmental governance and sustainable performance—earning its place among the world’s sustainability leaders.
MSCI
GIS received a BBB rating in MSCI ESG Ratings.
