In March 2024, General Interface Solution (GIS) received formal validation of its near-term science-based targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This confirms that GIS’s 2030 emissions reduction pathway aligns with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C climate goal, making GIS one of the few companies in Taiwan’s optoelectronics sector to achieve this milestone.
Sustainability Progress Highlights (2023–2024):
-GIS’s first TCFD report (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) received the highest certification of “Level 5+: Excellence” from the British Standards Institution (BSI)
-Successfully renewed its RBA VAP (Validated Assessment Program) Silver Rating
-Achieved a “B” rating in the CDP Climate Change questionnaire
-Made significant progress in energy saving, water conservation, and waste reduction, reinforcing its commitment to climate action
Near-Term Target Details (SBTi Approved):
-Base year: 2022
-Goals by 2030:
42% absolute reduction in Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 3 (value chain emissions)
Achieve 100% renewable electricity usage across operations
To meet these goals, GIS is implementing proactive carbon reduction strategies within its operations and promoting supplier engagement through climate-related questionnaires—striving toward net-zero and long-term sustainability together with its value chain partners.
About SBTi
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global climate action partnership founded by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the We Mean Business Coalition. The initiative helps companies set emissions reduction targets in line with climate science, and ensures their credibility through a rigorous validation process.
